Opening Statements Made In Case Of Mom Accused In Murder, Dismemberment Of Son

MACOMB COUNTY (CBS DETROIT) - Opening statements made Wednesday in the case of a murdered man from St. Clair Shores.

Donna Scrivo, 61, is accused of killing her son and dumping her 32-year-old child's dismembered remains in garbage bags.

The defense attorney for Scrivo described her to a jury as a doting mother. Attorney Mark Haddad said that she had no motive to kill her son Ramsey Scrivo.

The prosecutor in the case says that the murder was premeditated.

Prosecutors say Donna Scrivo filed a missing person's report Jan. 27, claiming that her son left his St. Clair Shores home and failed to return. Three days later, someone reported seeing a woman dumping trash bags from an SUV in China and St. Clair townships.

Days after the report was filed in 2014, authorities found evidence connected to the missing man. Ultimately, it was determined to be Screvo's dismembered body, which was found in garbage bags dumped along rural roads in St. Clair County.

A resident called police after they saw a number of garbage bags being dumped in China Township on Allington Road between Fred Moore Highway and Trumble Road, according to St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon.

Autopsy results show the 32-year-old died from asphyxiation.
