FLINT (CBS DETROIT) - Giggles for Mayor? A Flint man is putting up his eight month old pet pig 'Giggles' as a write-in candidate for Mayor in the August primary.

With no candidates on the actual ballot, and write-ins including a convicted wrong-way drunk driver and convicted murderer Michael Ewing took a different approach to candidacy.

"My whole thing is, if I can get dialogue going, get a discussion going, I think that we have accomplished at least one task. And if I can get the pig elected, we'll have a real cute mayor, won't we?"

Ewing says the Flint mayor isn't just a figurehead and he wants to draw attention to what he calls the lack of qualified candidates.

"We have candidates running in Flint who are lesser qualified than this pig - and that's not a joke," said Ewing who is preparing to file the financial paperwork for Giggles the pig to run for mayor.

"This is a circus," said Ewing. "This is sad. We should be able to demand more of our politicians."

In a Facebook post, Ewing further explained his motivation for getting his pig involved in politics.

"So, yes, I am running Giggles the Pig for Mayor of Flint. I hope that you will vote for her as a mayoral candidate who has never murdered a human. She has never placed citizens in harm by driving drunk on the highway, and has never interrupted public business and public meetings. She is a sweet and intelligent animal—which is more than can be said for some candidates.
"Although I would like to take credit for being the first to run an animal in an election—it has been done before. There are towns across the country that have had cats, dogs, and even a beer drinking donkey who served as mayor. And years ago, there were several ficus plants that ran against members of Congress."

What if Giggles is actually elected?

"I guess I'll have to drive her to council meetings - I don't know," said
