Detroit Police Investigating Shooting At State Senator's House

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police are investigating a shooting at the home of State Senator Virgil Smith on Sunday.

The shooting on Wexford St. happened early Sunday morning. Smith was allegedly arguing with his ex-wife -- who is again his girlfriend -- outside of his home on Wexford St. when several shots hit her Mercedes-Benz.

Police Chief James Craig said that no one was hurt in the shooting and declined comment on who fired the shots, saying it's "still an ongoing investigation." He says the shooter fired at least twice.

Sergeant Cassandra Lewis said that the Detroit Police Department's Domestic Violence division was at the Senator's home.

An earlier report indicated Senator Smith is in custody.

Smith is a member of the Democratic party who represents Senate District 4, ranging from northern Detroit to Southgate.
