The courting of Mike Babcock seems to be officially underway.

The 52-year-old upcoming free agent coach -- who has spent the last 10 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings -- will begin meeting with teams and ultimately will decide whether or not to leave Detroit this summer.

According to Nick Kypreos of SportsNet, Babcock met with Toronto Maple Leafs' president and former Red Wing Brendan Shanahan over the weekend to discuss their open head coach position.

Babcock has tallied a 458-223-105 record with the Red Wings, winning the Stanley Cup in 2008 and reaching the Stanley Cup Final the next season in 2009. His playoff record in Detroit stands at 123-67-56.
