National Weather Service: Severe Thunderstorms, Tornadoes Could Strike Metro Detroit

DETROIT (CBS DETROIT) - As the morning fog clears, we'll have a chance of severe weather hitting the metro Detroit area this afternoon.

Accuweather and the National Weather Service says tornadoes are possible and the thunderstorms could produce wind gusts of up to 65 miles per hour.

"It's for the whole area," CBS 62 Chief Meteorologist Jim Madaus said about the weather warning. "A cold front is coming our way and along with the cold front ... It could trigger some very strong storms."

The main time frame for the storms is between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Monday afternoon: Potential for heavy thunderstorms, damaging rains - setting the conditions for a possible tornado.

Tuesday: We'll see some relief from rain and high temps-- with a partly cloudy day. High reaching just under 60 degrees -- could see some strong windy conditions throughout the day.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy with high temperature reaching 62 degrees.

Thursday: Warm but a mostly cloudy day, with temps reaching in the mid- 60's.
