3 Suspects In Custody After Man Killed In 'Gun Battle' On Inkster Street

INKSTER (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say three suspects, including two juveniles, have been taken into custody after a man was killed during a "gun battle" in the middle of a street in Inkster.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on Moore Street, in a neighborhood near Annapolis and Inkster roads.

Troopers arrived on the scene and found the body of an adult male in the street. Further up the block, troopers found multiple bullet casings.

Lt. Mike Shaw said three suspects were taken into custody shortly after the victim was discovered.

"Two of the suspects are juveniles, one is an adult," said Shaw, adding that both juveniles are under the age of 16. "They are currently in custody of the Michigan State Police and we are processing them now."

Shaw credited the suspects' swift apprehension in part to helpful citizens who led police to "a house in the neighborhood" where the arrests were made.

"[It happened] during the interviews of the neighborhood, which we are extremely thankful for the cooperation of the community of Inkster, and this is probably about the fourth investigation now that the community has helped us out a great deal in combating crime in their neighborhoods," said Shaw.

Investigators have not yet discussed a motive, but described the shooting as a "gun battle." The victim, believed to be in his 20s, was not immediately identified. An autopsy is pending.

Shaw said it could take investigators quite some time to piece everything together, due to the massive amount of evidence at the scene.

"As soon as we determine the status of these three suspects, they will either be released or else they'll be charged," said Shaw.

Darren Lacey, who lives across the street from where the body was found, was surprised to hear about the violence that took place right outside his door.

"Yeah, usually it's a quiet street and everybody gets along over here. This is kind of unusual," Lacey told WWJ's Mike Campbell.

Anyone who might have information on the shooting is urged to contact police at 734-368-8290.
