Better Made Launches App To Find Chips, Connect With Customers

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - One of Detroit's best-known brands for bites and chips is expanding into a different type of bytes and chips.

Better Made Snack Food has launched a GPS-based mobile app for Apple and Android devices to help customers find the nearest Better Made retailers, place orders for a variety of products and take part in contests.

Officials believe Better Made is the first regional potato chip company to have a mobile app

"It gives our fans and customers an opportunity to have another way to connect with us," said Mark Winkelman, President of Better Made, who added the app makes it easy to find the company's product with a chip locator. "If you are out and about and you are looking for a place that would carry better made snack foods, you don't have to guess."

The release of the app - created by Ferndale-based Fuse Technology Group - comes during the company's 85th anniversary.

While Better Made has expanded its offerings to include flavored potato sticks, gourmet popcorn, pretzels, beef jerky, tortilla chips and pork rinds, the recipe for its flagship product has remained the same over the years.

"We use the best Michigan grown potatoes  that we can get. We cook in best oils we can and get them to the store as fresh as they can be," Winkelman said.
