Jogger Dies After Being Hit By Oncoming Car At Oakland University

ROCHESTER (WWJ) - Police have identified a man who died after being struck by a vehicle while jogging on the campus of Oakland University.

Police say 54-year-old Perry Badia, of Rochester Hills, was running on Pioneer Drive around 5 p.m. Thursday when he was hit by an oncoming car, driven by a 25-year-old O-U student.

Badia was taken to McLaren Oakland Hospital and later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak where he was pronounced dead around 9:20 p.m. An autopsy is expected to reveal an exact cause of death.

Authorities say their initial investigation revealed that Badia was jogging eastbound in the westbound lanes, and the vehicle was traveling westbound. The driver, who stayed at the scene and spoke to police, was uninjured.

Police initially had trouble identifying Badia because he wasn't carrying any identification. His name was released Friday morning.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone who might have information is urged to contact campus police at 248-370-3331.
