Woman Charged With Child Abuse, Allegedly Beat Boyfriend's Baby Out Of Jealousy

EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - A 37-year old Eastpointe woman is facing charges for allegedly beating her boyfriend's 14-month-old son -- an act that was reportedly fueled by jealousy.

Authorities say Hillary Ulp was arraigned Monday in 38th District Court on a charge of first degree child abuse. Bond was set at $500,000 cash.

Police say they were called Friday to a home in the 23000 block of Schroeder, near 9 Mile and Kelly roads, and found Nicholas Kuras unresponsive.

The toddler was taken to St. John Providence Hospital in Southfield with what was described as a severe brain injury and multiple broken bones. He was last reported in critical condition.

Ulp was taken into custody after the child was examined by doctors. According to reports, police believe a possible motive for the attack may be jealously, based on statements allegedly made by the boy's father.

Ulp is currently being held in the Macomb County Jail.
