Former Red Wings Coach Mike Babcock Says Goodbye To Detroit In Full-Page Newspaper Ad
After leading the Detroit Red Wings for the past decade, Mike Babcock is leaving town and headed to the helm of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Babcock declined to re-sign with the Red Wings, opting instead to accept a reported eight-year, $50 million offer from the Maple Leafs. Detroit's final offer was reported to be $20 million over five years.
Babcock said it was a "hard decision" to make, but you can't fault the man for welcoming a change of pace in his life. He's leaving on good terms and deserves nothing but respect from Detroit.
Especially with what is sure to be the final goodbye from Babcock and his family -- a full-page ad in Friday's Detroit Free Press, thanking all Red Wings fans for an "amazing 10 years."
"We'll never forget the support you've provided us and will always cherish the memories we've shared together in Hockeytown."
