Grad Student Who Duped Detroit-Area Churches Gets 10-Year Prison Sentence For Child Porn

DETROIT (AP) - A Detroit-area native caught with child pornography at a Philadelphia university has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Christopher Granger was taken into custody after he was sentenced Tuesday in Detroit federal court. Prosecutors said he greatly deceived a Grosse Pointe Farms church and a Detroit center for Capuchin priests into writing letters of praise that were given to the judge.

St. Paul on the Lake and the Solanus Casey Center didn't know about Granger's conviction and believed the letters were for job references.

Granger possessed child porn for nine years. It was discovered in 2013 on his computer at Drexel University where he was a graduate student. He previously worked as a teacher at Cardigan Mountain School in Canaan, New Hampshire.

The 29-year-old Granger says he's embarrassed to his "very core."
