Lead In Case Of Ypsilanti Township Woman Missing For A Year

YPSILANTI (WWJ) - There's a new lead in the case of an Ypsilanti Township woman who went missing over a year ago.

Deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's office, Tuesday afternoon, were searching in and around Ford Lake in Ypsilanti after a passerby found 42-year-old Tonya Jackson's I.D. on the shore.

Jackson, a mother of three, was last seen May 3, 2014, at Knight's Inn in Romulus, where she met with a coworker for drinks.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's Officer spokesman Derrick Jackson said they had dive teams searching the lake, and deputies were also combing surrounding area — near Bridge Street between Textile and Grove, south of I-94 — for more evidence.

"We haven't had much to go on for quite some time for this. She'd been gone a little bit over a year now, so the identification there right on the shore of the lake is pretty significant," Jackson told WWJ's Zahra Huber.

"We did have a lead that came in from out of state that turned out to be nothing, several months ago — someone who was missing by the same name of Tonya Jackson...but it turned out to be another individual," he said. "That's been pretty much the only thing in a year that was of any significance."

So what do investigators hope to find?

"Anything — a vehicle, you know, some other clothing — anything to go on at this point would be quite signifficant for us," Jackson said.

Anyone with information on this case  is asked to contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department tip line at 734-973-7711.
