Bid Is In For City Of Detroit To Host 2019 College Football National Championship Game

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Detroit Sports Commission has put in a bid for the city to host the 2019 College Football National Championship game. Executive Director Dave Beachnau says the city has done it before:

"This, like many other major events we've hosted, has a whole series of activities leading up to that championship game on Monday night - we'll play to our assets and the weather and really put on a great show like we did for the Super Bowl," said Beachnau.

Beachnau says his group submitted their bid to host the game in 2019 and that there's plenty of competition for it, "Atlanta, San Antonio, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Charlotte, Miami, Houston and New Orleans are all planning to, or have submitted bids that were due today."

The game would be at Ford Field, but some of the other events could easily slide over into Comerica Park and the new Red Wings arena.

Beachnau says the NCAA has expressed willingness to put the game in a cold climate city.
