Central Michigan Adminstration Building Closed Due To Asbestos

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Elevated asbestos levels at Central Michigan University's main administration building prompted officials to temporarily close the facility.

The Mount Pleasant school says findings were based on air samples last week after crews working on water lines at Warriner Hall noticed insulation and old pipes in a large air duct in the building's crawl space. The building was closed through the weekend and into Tuesday.

The school says it's awaiting more test results.

Employees were reassigned temporarily to work at other campus locations or from home. The school says 169 employees work at Warriner Hall.

Provost Mike Gealt says the temporary closure was done out of an "abundance of caution." The insulation and pipes likely came from pre-1975 renovation or construction work.
