CBS DETROIT - The Detroit Tigers have called up Toledo Mud Hens outfielder Daniel Fields, a 24-year-old Detroit native whom the Tigers drafted in the sixth round in 2009.

Fields essentially announced the news on his Twitter account late Monday night, and fellow Tigers minor leaguer Ben Verlander quickly congratulated him. CBS Detroit confirmed the call-up.

In 48 games for Toledo this season, Fields has a batting average of .271 and an on-base percentage of .394.

Fields is receiving the call so he can fill in for Rajai Davis, who is expected to soon be on paternity leave, per Jason Beck of MLB.com.

Fields is the son of Bruce Fields, a former Tigers outfielder and coach. Detroit drafted the elder Fields in the seventh round in 1978.
