Evans' Veto Could Mean Higher Taxes In Wayne County
DETROIT (WWJ) -- The Wayne County Executive has vetoed a county commission vote over a one-time property tax assessment for residents this summer. At issue is $49 million owed to the county's employee retirement system.
The commission voted nine-to-four not to ask taxpayers to foot the bill, instead using money from the "Delinquent Tax Revolving Fund."
But in issuing his veto, Executive Warren Evans says although he doesn't like it "shared sacrifice" is necessary.

Evans says the amount of the levy has dropped and would cost the average Wayne County taxpayer about $35.
