Ambassador Bridge Owner's Companies Pay Fines To Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - Reports show Ambassador Bridge owner Matty Moroun's companies paid Detroit roughly $150,000 in April for code violations and blight citations on various properties.

According to a press report Saturday a document finds Moroun's companies paid for about 200 violations at several dozen properties, including the vacant Michigan Central depot. Mayor Mike Duggan spokesman John Roach says the companies are up-to-date on fines ranging from 2002 to April reports The Detroit Free Press.

The payments came during talks between the city and Moroun's International Bridge Co. over a land transfer deal.

The bridge company will transfer nearly 5 acres to the city to expand nearby Riverside Park and pay Detroit $3 million for park improvements. Moroun gets city-owned land that could be used as part of a planned private bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
