Detroit Zoo Takes Steps To Curb Noise From Dinosaur Exhibit

ROYAL OAK (AP) - People living near the Detroit Zoo say noise from a visiting dinosaur exhibit has been brought under better control.

That was the consensus Monday night at the latest in a series of meetings about noise complaints. This spring, the zoo took steps to muffle the sound that accompanies "Dinosauria."

The zoo's Chief Operating Officer Gerry VanAcker says the zoo moved some exhibits, installed a $42,000 sound wall and hired a sound consultant.

Van Acker says final control over sound levels of summer bands is now given to zoo managers for fundraisers, the zoo's special events and private parties.

The zoo is based in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak and most zoo property is in Huntington Woods - both residential communities.
