Gathering Turns Tragic As 4-Year-Old Found Face Down In Pool

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A friendly gathering turns tragic after a 4-year-old boy disappears from view and is found face-down in a pool.

Authorities confirmed the death of a toddler from Lake Orion who disappeared from his family's sight for 'five minutes' and was found unresponsive in a pool.

Authorities responded to a call of a child not breathing and began CPR upon arrival at the home in Sterling Heights. The boy was taken to Beaumont Hospital in Troy where he was pronounced dead.

"It is a sad reminder of how fast something like this can happen and how vigilant parents need to be during the summer months," said Sterling Heights police Lt. David Smith.

Sterling Heights police Chief Michael Reese says this is a tragedy for everyone involved.

"The family and friends are devastated, the officers and fire personel are devastated, we all have children of our own," said Chief Reese.

No charges are expected to be filed.
