'Wild Summer Nights' Concert Series Begins July 1 At The Detroit Zoo

ROYAL OAK (CBS Detroit) - There's music in the air this summer at the Detroit Zoo.

The zoo is once again hosting its popular "Wild Summer Nights" concert series: an eclectic mix of live performances from local bands featuring everything from children's music, pop, jazz, Motown and R&B, Wednesday nights, July 1 through Aug. 26.

The evening concerts, in the zoo's Main Picnic Grove from 6:30 to 8 p.m., are free with zoo admission.

Guests are welcome to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets; and, while outside alcoholic beverages are prohibited, beer and wine will be available for purchase for the adults and there will be plenty of snacks and soft drives for sale on site.

• July 1 – The Sun Messengers (Motown and R&B)
• July 8 – iHeartMedia Family Fun Night
• July 15 – Starfarm ('80s pop rock)
• July 22 – Michigan Opera Theatre (Detroit Opera House)
• July 29 – Mr. Seley and the Troublemakers (children's)
• Aug. 5 – Taylor Taylor (jazz-pop)
• Aug. 12 – The Verve Pipe (children's)
• Aug. 19 – Detroit Children's Choir (Detroit Symphony Orchestra)
• Aug. 26 – Candy Band (children's)
