The days of looking over the shoulders of friends playing video games has advanced to multi-players games linked together over the Internet and gamers showcasing their skills in videos posted to YouTube.

Alan Joyce, YouTube product manager, wrote in a blog that gamers use YouTube for a variety of videos ranging from let's plays, walkthroughs, and speedruns.

"Now, it's our turn to return the favor with something built just for gamers," Joyce wrote about the new YouTube Gaming app and website.

He added that YouTube Gaming will, "keep you connected to the games, players, and culture that matter to you, with videos, live streams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web—all in one place."

According to YouTube, more than 25,000 games from "Asteroids" to "Zelda" will each have their own page with videos and live streams about the title. There will also be channels from game publishers and YouTube creators on the gaming channel.

Gamers will also be able to add a game to their collection; subscribe to a channel and conduct gaming-specific searches.
The new site will also make it easier to broadcast gameplay, officials stated.
