Shuttle Service Planned Between Metro Airport, Downtown Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Officials say a shuttle service between Detroit Metropolitan Airport and downtown Detroit could begin as early as next spring.
The Regional Transit Authority plans to formally solicit proposals from transportation companies for the service, which would augment hired cars and taxi cabs that currently take people to and from the airport in Romulus.
Officials estimate the service may cost $6.5 million. It would be subsidized with grants when it starts and could be expanded to cover Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. If successful, the cost would be folded into a transit tax increase being sought in November 2016.
The Regional Transit Authority says specific fares and pickup and drop-off points haven't yet been determined.
