Detroit Reverend Targets Highland Park Mayor Over Water Issue, Court Judgement
DETROIT (WWJ) - Reverend David Bullock of Detroit looking to put the Highland Park mayor on the defensive for mishandling the interests of the city in a scathing blog post.
Bullock calls to task Mayor DeAndre Windon over a $20 million court judgment regarding past due water and sewerage services now owed to the city of Detroit.
In the blog post Bullock says if being incompetent were a crime the mayor would be guilty as charged.
He criticizes the mayor for the closing of the city's water plant and transferring services to Detroit's water system.
"When it comes to water - everyone has their opinion - and as I stated at the meeting of the candidate's night; the closing of the water plant was to be sure that people had safe water to drink," said Windom.
The mayor was not ruffled by the online attack reported WWJ's Citybeat Reporter Vickie Thomas.
"Surprise? I wouldn't say I'm surprised - I mean you have a lot of people maybe pushing their own agenda," said Windom.
Bullock contends the mayor, who is seeking re-election, reneged on getting resources to renovate and reopen the water plant.
"It's not like we wasn't looking for resources and always have an open door -- so if anybody know where any resources at - please bring them to the table," countered Windom.
Meanwhile, teachers at the nearby Highland Park High School cleared out their classrooms for the last time.
One teacher saying it was a sad day.
"Got to figure that that was going to close," said Windom."With a 158 students it's impossible to operate a school building."
He says that talks are in progress to address the possibility the building would be used for independent schooling.
