Police Looking For Phony Cop Involved In Traffic Stop In Oakland County

OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - A phony cop was spotted Thursday in Oakland County and police want your help in tracking down the impostor.  Witnesses tell the sheriff's office a man wearing a tactical vest with the word "sheriff" on the back was driving around in Pontiac Bonneville -- it had red and blue LED lighting in the rear.

Two off duty deputies saw the man in the area of I-96 and Milford Road. It appeared he was impersonating a police office by conducting a traffic stop.

One of the off duty officers followed the suspect, but he sped off -- hitting speeds of 90 miles per hour and the off duty officer stopped the pursuit out of concern for safety.

According to police the car pulled over looked to have been a black GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Tahoe with Ohio license plates stopped on the side of the road.

Police said the suspect was a white man with a light brown crew cut style haircut, he was last seen wearing bright blue pants and a black tactical vest with the word "Sheriff" in silver letters on the back.

The suspect's car looked to be an early 2000's silver or champagne Pontiac Bonneville Red and Blue LED lights in the rear window - the windows on the car are mirror tinted and had a Michigan license plate of 0KLR02.
