Flint Councilman Appears In Court In Disorderly Conduct Case

FLINT, Mich. (AP) - Authorities have brought a disorderly conduct charge against Flint City Councilman Eric Mays after police escorted him from a City Hall meeting when he refused to stop talking.

Mays appeared Tuesday before District Judge Tracy Collier-Nix, who says she'll recuse herself because the court is part of Flint's government and the city is prosecuting Mays reports The Flint Journal.

Mays is running in the Aug. 4 mayoral primary. He says the case is a political game and a waste of taxpayer money, and he'll fight the charge.

The newspaper says City Council Finance Committee chairwoman Monica Galloway told Mays July 8 that he was being disorderly and asked police to remove him.

The councilman also faces retrial Aug. 11 on an impaired driving charge.
