Police: 2 Teen Girls Responsible For Theft Of 2 Dozen US Flags

CLINTON TOWNSHIP (AP) - Police say two 16-year-old girls stole more than two dozen U.S. flags in suburban Detroit.

Clinton Township police Detective Bryan Gilbert tells The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens no reason was given for the thefts, which happened Saturday night.

Some residents of the Macomb County community awoke Sunday morning to discover flags were missing. Investigators got a license plate number from a witness. They tracked down the girls, one from Clinton Township and the other from Sterling Heights.

Police say juvenile charges could be brought.

Several homeowners stopped by the police station on Tuesday to go through a pile of recovered flags.

Ray Kraemer, a General Motors retiree, visited the station to try to find his flag. He indicated he didn't want to prosecute, saying "kids will be kids."
