'Veggie Evolution' Kale Chips Recalled Due To Undeclared Allergen

DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - Michigan grocery stores are pulling a brand of kale chips off of shelves due to an undeclared ingredient.

It Takes A Village Foods has recalled its Veggie Evolution Kale Crisps Zen Nori because, the company says, the product may contain soy — which is not listed on the label.

The Kale Crisps Zen Nori is seaweed flavored dehydrated kale chip, available in a 1.5 oz. package, sold under the brand name "Veggie Evolution." Included in the recall are products with a "Best if Used By" date stamp on or before 022116. (Find the date on the lower left corner on the back side of the package).

People who have allergy or severe sensitivity to soy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if consumed.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

The chips were distributed to stores in Michigan, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Utah between Sept. 9, 2014 and July 15, 2015.  They were also sold online at also sold online at VeggieEvolution.com.
