Is There Such A Thing As Too Much Bling In Baseball? Felix Hernandez's Massive Diamonds Beg The Question

Dang. Those are some big diamonds there, King Felix.
He didn't pitch, but Tigers fans who caught Tuesday night's game — and anyone within a mile away — may have noticed Seattle Mariners' ace Felix Hernandez's ear lobes sparkling in the dugout.
When the TV camera operator moved in for a closeup, announcers Mario Impemba and Rod Allen pointed out the flashy jewelry, chuckling while discussing whether the stones are diamonds or possibly cubic zirconias. The debate ended with the pair concluding the massive rocks are probably real, and that "he's earned it."
He has a couple different pairs.
The Cy Young award-winner's eye-catching adornments have been a topic before.
It's only fair to note that it appears he doesn't wear them while pitching.
So, is there such a thing as too much bling in baseball?
97.1 The Ticket and WWJ Newsradio 950's Tony Ortiz says unequivocally, yes.
"I'm old-fashioned like that. I don't think any jewelry should be worn in baseball," Ortiz said. "I hate it, I hate it," he added, shaking his head while noting he began seeing athletes accessorizing back in the 1970s — mentioning "Mr. October" Reggie Jackson as one of MLB's early offenders.
"I'd like to see no jewelry at all...even in the dugout," Ortiz said.
