1 Boy Killed, Another Hurt In Separate Gun Play Incidents

STAR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Michigan authorities say one boy is dead and another wounded after separate cases of children playing with firearms.

Antrim County Sheriff Daniel Bean says two brothers who are under 14 years old were building a fort on their grandparent's property Thursday when one produced a handgun.

The Grand Rapids Press says the gun fired, killing the other brother. The sheriff isn't identifying the victim.

The site is in Star Township, about 25 miles south of Petoskey.

State police say children in Saginaw were playing Friday when they found a loaded shotgun.

The Saginaw News reports that Lt. David Kaiser says a piece of birdshot penetrated the arm of a boy, who was recovering Thursday. Police say a man may have used the shotgun in an earlier attack at nearby apartments.
