Motorcyclist Killed, Struck By Suspected Drunk Driver In Sterling Heights

STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a suspected drunken driver in Sterling Heights Sunday night.

Police say a 21-year old Richmond man was driving the SUV that hit the Harley Davidson bike, which was stopped at a traffic light on northbound Mound Road, near M-59, at around 10:40 p.m.

"The Suburban, also traveling northbound, did not brake and ran into the rear of the motorcycle," said Sterling Heights Police Lt. David Smith. "EMS responded to the scene. Unfortunately the driver of the motorcycle was pronounced deceased on scene."

The victim has been identified as a 44-year old Shelby Township man.

The suspect, who was not injured, was arrested at the scene on a charge of Operating Under the Influence (OUI). He was expected to be arraigned as early as Monday afternoon.

Northbound Mound was closed at the scene for an accident investigation, but reopened shortly before 4 a.m. Monday.

No names were immediately released.
