Detroit Police Officer Injured While Responding To 911 Call About Homeless Man
DETROIT (WWJ) - Officials say a Detroit police officer is hospitalized after being injured while responding to a 911 call about a homeless person.
The incident happened Thursday morning after police received an emergency call from a home in the area of Peterboro Street and Woodward Avenue, just south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. The caller told police that a man was refusing to leave the property.
Officers responded to the scene and attempted to remove the man, who then became combative and punched the officer in the right eye, according to police.
The man, said to be in his 20s, was immediately taken into custody. The officer was taken to Henry Ford Hospital with a cut to the right eye. His injuries were described as minor.
An investigation is ongoing.
