Christian Camp Counselor Fired Amid Probe Into Possible Sexual Misconduct With Camper

COLFAX TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Officials say a counselor at a Christian camp in western Michigan has been fired amid an investigation into possible sexual misconduct involving a camper.

The former male counselor at Cran-Hill Ranch in Mecosta County, however, has not been charged as the sheriff's department investigates.

The camp's executive director Scott Barger says the camp learned of the allegation from the camper on July 9 and contacted law enforcement as well as the camper's parents. He says the camp's role is to protect campers and the camp is "disappointed and saddened."

"We want people to feel comfortable in knowing that their kids are safe in all Christian camps," Borger told WOOD-TV. "They do a great job, I affirm all Christian camps in the state."

Details of the allegation weren't immediately released. The department says it's working to interview the suspect, who lives out of state.

The state's Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs says the camp took "swift and appropriate action" about the allegation.
