Farmington Hills Man Killed In Small Plane Crash In Northern Michigan

LITTLE TRAVERSE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a 58-year-old suburban Detroit pilot has died in a small plane crash near an airport in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.

The Petoskey News-Review reports the plane was discovered by an Emmet Brick and Block employee around 7:30 a.m. Monday in Emmet County's Little Traverse Township. Salesman Jeff Dufek tells MLive.com the worker noticed a large tree limb down and found the pilot dead in the plane.

The sheriff's department says it believes the plane crashed about 11 p.m. Sunday approaching the airport for Harbor Springs, about 55 miles northeast of Traverse City. Authorities say Arthur A. Green III of Farmington Hills was the only person aboard.

Authorities say Green, a first lieutenant with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, was going to a meeting in a private plane.
