Return Of The Frat Mom? University Of Michigan Says It's Time

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - University of Michigan officials want a house mom or live-in housing director to be involved with the school's fraternities to help combat behavioral issues.

Administrators met last week with representatives from about 30 national Greek organizations that have chapters on the school's campus in Ann Arbor. Dean of Students Laura Blake Jones says the university has been working toward a "comprehensive cultural change within Greek life" on campus.

The Detroit Free Press reports that the change only would affect new organizations coming to campus or previously disbanded organizations that want to start again.

In January, six fraternities and sororities from the school damaged doors, furniture, fixtures and carpet at Treetops and Boyne Highlands. Damage, legal fees and other expenses will cost about $430,000 at Treetops Resort in Gaylord. About $30,000 in damage was done to 12 condos at Boyne Highlands near Petoskey.

It's in response to vandalism at Treetops ski resort by more than 120 members of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity earlier this year. The resort says the students trashed 45 rooms and caused over $430,000 in damages.
