Suspect Returned To Custody After Escaping District Court In Redford

REDFORD TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police in Redford Township have tracked down and arrested a man they say took off during a court appearance Tuesday afternoon for armed robbery.

Baldwin _Justin (Police Booking)Police are not saying how 22-year-old Justin Baldwin escaped custody while handcuffed reports WWJ's Stephanie Davis.

"He ran north -- north of Five Mile and west of Beech Daly through the neighborhoods which is where we lost sight of him. We used several police officers - we had the assistance of the Livonia Police Department and their dog and a dog track and we were unable to capture him at that time," said Lt. David Holt.

Tips came in and Baldwin was found by police a couple of hours after he made his escape.

"Citizens called us, at least two of them, had sighted him east of Beech Daly and north of Five Mile and our officers responded to the area and chased him down and arrested him."

Baldwin's mother Natyta Jones was at the police station just as her son was brought back to be booked.

"I am relieved that my son is okay - my son is not in his right state of mind right now," said Jones. "I will do anything to save my son's life. It's a heartening feeling to have a police officer to tell you that we are going to catch your son one way or another - dead or alive."
