Detroit Tigers Activate Miguel Cabrera From DL

HOUSTON (CBS Detroit/AP) -- After a six-week stint on the disabled list the Detroit Tigers have activated first baseman Miguel Cabrera, the team announced Friday.

Cabrera will bat third and play first base for the Tigers on Friday against the Houston Astros.

On July 3, Cabrera suffered a Grade 3 calf strain while running to second base in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Cabrera was on first base with no outs and a 3-2 count to Victor Martinez, and took off with the pitch. Martinez fouled the ball off, but Cabrera pulled up sharply, grabbing his left leg. He was attended to by trainers and limped off the field.

To make room on the roster, pitcher Kyle Ryan has been optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
