Street 'Littered With Bullet Casings' After Shooting On Detroit's West Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit police are investigating a shooting on the city's west side that left the street "littered with bullet casings."

The incident unfolded around 3:15 a.m. Friday at a home on Clairmount Avenue near Linwood Street, in a neighborhood just west of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Chicago Boulevard.

According to police, a man grabbed his gun after hearing a suspicious noise outside of his home. The man went to the front of his house, opened the door and was confronted by the suspect, who opened fire. The homeowner returned fire, but was struck by a bullet. The suspect then fled the scene.

The man was taken to a local hospital with what police described as a minor gunshot wound. He returned home around 8:30 a.m. after receiving treatment and is expected to recover.

A description of the suspect was not immediately released.

Reporting live from the scene, WWJ's Mike Campbell said at least a dozen evidence markers lined the street in front of the home.

Several law enforcement officials responded to the scene, including Michigan State Police troopers.

An investigation is ongoing.
