Camp Counselor Accused Of Child Porn Crimes Faces Hearing

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - A 21-year-old man charged with producing child pornography by taking photos of boys in a locker room while working at a day camp in metro Detroit faces a bond hearing.

Matthew Kuppe was charged last week and ordered held pending Tuesday's hearing in federal court in Detroit.

He was recently fired as a counselor at the Jewish Community Center, which operates camps in Oakland County's West Bloomfield Township and Oak Park.

The investigation began with a tip about photos of young boys on a foreign website. In a court filing, agents said they confronted Kuppe and he admitted posting cellphone photos.

According to a seven-page criminal complaint, Kuppe allegedly posted numerous nude photographs of young boys under the username "jcclockerroom." In one photo that showed a prepubescent boy's genitalia, the photographer's shoe is visible in the image, according to the complaint. When investigators were conducting surveillance of Kuppe, he was allegedly wearing the same pair of shoes as in the illicit photo.

Activities at the Jewish Community Center include swimming and soccer. Officials at the camp say they are cooperating fully with the investigation.

Investigators are still trying to identify any potential victims. The U.S. Attorney's office in Detroit has set up a call center for people wanting information about the investigation -- 1-888-702-0553.
