DETROIT (CBS Detroit) -- Daniel Norris' oblique strain, which landed him on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, is worse than originally thought, according to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus.

Ausmus said that Norris is now looking at a minimum of four weeks off the mound. Norris himself mentioned a three-to-six-week timetable before he'll regain full health.

"I got it pretty good I guess," Norris said, mentioning that the strain was between a Grade 1 and 2.

"It's pretty frustrating," he said. "I definitely felt like I was turning a corner, feeling really good on the mound. And that happens, it's a little frustrating."

After being traded to Detroit from Toronto's minor leagues, Norris has started four games for the Tigers, allowing 23 hits and 13 runs with an ERA of 5.06.

Before he left in the fifth inning of Wednesday's game against the Cubs, he had struck out six and allowed four hits and three runs. He also launched a two-run homer to center field in his first major league plate appearance, becoming the first American League pitcher to hit a home run at Wrigley Field in history.

Norris said that he started to feel tightness in his right side in the fifth inning, and he was pulled from the game shortly afterwards.

On the possibility of shutting Norris down for the rest of the season, Ausmus admitted there was a chance the Tigers would do so, "but we're not gonna do that now," he said.

Norris added: "I'm going to do everything I can off the field to prepare myself to come back, whatever decision they make."

According to Ausmus, there was no change to the status of Anibal Sanchez, who was also put on the 15-day DL on Thursday.
