Police: Senior Citizen Offered To Pay Teen Selling Lemonade For Sexual Favors During Neighborhood Garage Sale

MACOMB TWP. (WWJ) - Police in Macomb County say a 67-year-old man was arrested after approaching a 14-year-old girl at a lemonade stand and offering her money for sex.

The incident took place just after 1 p.m. Friday in Macomb Township as a neighborhood garage sale was underway.

According to police, the girl was operating a lemonade stand with some friends when the man approached her and said he would give her money for sexual favors. The girl immediately ran to her home and told her mother.

"During the interaction, a man and woman who were attending the garage sale observed what was going on and felt that something was not right," police said in a statement.

As the couple saw the girl run into her house, the suspect entered his vehicle in an attempt to leave. Moments later, the mother ran from her house in the direction of the suspect.

"The couple then pulled their car in front of the suspect's vehicle and blocked him in," police said.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene after receiving a 911 call and took the suspect into custody without further incident.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, is currently at the Macomb County Jail pending a formal arraignment on a felony charge of accosting children for immoral purposes. He was given a $100,000 cash bond at an interim bond hearing.

Police say the suspect lives in the area of the crime and could be involved in other "stranger danger" reports. Detectives are reaching out to other police agencies to see if similar incidents have been reported.

Anyone who might have information on the suspect or believes they may be a victim is urged to contact the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at 586-469-5151.
