Macomb Township Man, 67, Charged With Trying To Lure 14-Year-Old Into Sex Act At A Lemonade Stand

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (CBS Detroit) A 38 year-old Shelby Township man driving through a neighborhood for its subdivision-wide garage-sale knew something wasn't right with the older man trying to talk to a young girl at her lemonade stand.

He intervened when it happened Friday, blocking in the man's minvan and preventing him from driving away.

The girl ran to her residence in the 47000 block of Blueridge Street and told her mother what happened. The mother called the Sheriff's Office.

And deputies learned the 14 year-old girl had been in the driveway of a home selling lemonade when the man pulled up in a white Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

The man, later identified as 67 year-old Macomb Township resident Pal Rakaj, exited his vehicle, approached the girl and offered her money in exchange for a sexual act, police said. Rakaj was arrested.

He was brought to the Macomb County Jail where he was charged with accosting, enticing or soliciting a child for immoral purposes, a four-year felony.

On Saturday, Rakaj of Macomb Township was the subject of an interim bond hearing.  He subsequently posted a $100,000 surety bond and was released from the jail at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

Rakaj was formally arraigned Monday in 41A District Court of Shelby Township. His bond was continued at $100,000, and he was ordered to wear a GPS tether.

His next court date is Sept. 8.
