Portions Of I-75 Reopen After Deadly Tanker Crash

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - I-75 at the Detroit-Lincoln Park border has re-opened to traffic, following a fatal crash that damaged the freeway.

Repairs to the median are almost complete but all three lanes of northbound I-75 are open for the Monday rush-hour commute; from Southfield Road to Outer Drive.

A massive explosion following a tanker crash, which killed the 53-year-old driver Roddy Winn of Detroit, left the freeway under repair for days. Authorities say Winn lost control of the tanker - hitting the median wall and came to rest in the northbound lanes.

The fire from the 8,000 gallons of gasoline seared the concrete making structural repairs necessary.

The left lane of southbound I-75 remains closed Monday morning.
