Many of us have learned this, but some of us have not: Think before you Tweet. Then stop, and think again.

Former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling sent out a tweet with a meme saying, "It's said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?"

Lots of people didn't take the comparison between Muslims and Nazis well. Also,  no matter your particular beliefs, know the meme isn't true. The Nazi party, which was a political party and not a religion, had a stranglehold on Germany by 1940.

Schilling has since deleted the tweet.

Amid the outcry, people also said they were upset his Twitter handle is @gehrig38 and believe he shouldn't be associated with the late legend Lou Gehrig.

Schilling has since tried to apologize on his account.

When will people realize that when you post something on social media, it's out there on the Internet forever?
