DETROIT (WWJ) - A 28-year-old Detroit man is facing several charges after allegedly causing fatal hit-and-run accident on the city's west side.

Jimmie Lee Jackson was arraigned Wednesday on charges of reckless driving causing death; failure to stop at an accident causing death; operating with license suspended, revoked or denied causing death; and operating with license suspended, revoked or denied.

Jackson was ordered jailed on a $100,000 bond ahead of a September 2 probable cause conference and a Sept. 9 preliminary exam.

The charges stem from an accident that occurred around 10:55 p.m. on Monday, August 17 in the 7700 block of Greenview, near Southfield Freeway and Tireman Avenue.

Prosecutors say Jackson  is alleged to have been driving a friend's car northbound on Greenview at a high rate of speed when he struck 27-year-old LaDon Grice, who was retrieving items from her vehicle that was parked in the street.

The impact caused Grice to be thrown over 30 feet from her car. Jackson initially stopped after the collision but then "abruptly left the scene," according to police.

Grice was transported to a local hospital where she died from multiple injuries related to the crash.

Police released Jackson's photo shortly after the crime, identifying him as a suspect in the case. He was arrested Monday, Aug. 24.

The incident remains under investigation.
