Time To Pamper Your Pup, It's National Dog Day!

DETROIT (WWJ) - We might spoil our pets everyday but August 26th is one day to really let loose -- it's National Dog Day!

National Dog Day was established in 2004 as a way to bring attention to the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, while acknowledging family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.

Celebrate the day by taking your dog for a walk in a new park, or take a special trip to the pet store and let them pick out a brand new toy. You could also teach them a new trick, or just shower them with love and affection.

You could also enter your dog for a chance to win the title of National Dog Day "Cutest Dog in the World." All you have to do is post a photo of your dog to social media with the hashtags ‪#‎NationalDogDay‬ and ‪#‎DogDayCutestDog. The winning dog will be depicted in art on a National Dog Day t-shirt and poster, of which the winner will receive along with a goodie box, totaling a retail value of $250.

Even if you're not a pet owner, you can still participate in the celebration by donating money or supplies to your local animal shelter.
