On August 27, the Detroit Parent Network hosted hundreds of families for a Family and Friends Reunion at our offices. We partnered with the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and BabyFirst to launch the Snuggle Stories iPad/ iPhone app to provide parents with an effective learning resource for their young ones.

The event celebrated the influential difference parents make in their children's lives. One of the most powerful impacts an adult can make in a child's life is in reading to them and in teaching them to read.

Literacy efforts are so important with little ones, and yet one of the things we all have to remember is that adults need our help with literacy, too.

The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and Detroit Parent Network have teamed up to help parents whose children are struggling readers.

The Barbara Bush Foundation's unique training system, called "edutainment", trains parents to be great teachers in fun and entertaining ways.

Detroit Parent Network uses this training method to encourage parents to be their child's first and best teacher.
