2 Of 4 Teens Captured After Escaping Detroit Detention Center

DETROIT (WWJ) - Authorities say two of four teens who escaped from a juvenile detention center on Detroit's east side last week have been captured -- but two are still on the run.

Brian Manning, deputy director of the Wayne County Department of Health, Veterans and Community Wellness, said two of the teens were apprehended earlier this week after escaping from the Don Bosco DePaul Youth Treatment Center on Aug. 27.

Michael Robinson, 16, was picked up by deputies just before noon Tuesday in the area of Schaefer and 7 Mile Road on the city's west side. A second escapee, 17-year-old Keynata Saxton, was apprehended on the east side in the area of Van Dyke and 6 Mile Road just after 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police are still seeking the two other teens: 16-year-old Duane Stiff-Brown and 17-year-old Devonte Kenney.

According to police, guards opened the door to let visiting ministers exit the building, located on Charlevoix at East Grand Boulevard, when the boys rushed the door and knocked them down. The boys escaped on foot and went running in different directions.

Police say all four of the boys have been convicted of various crimes and were being held at the center "due to special needs." Felony warrants have been issued for their arrests.

Manning said an internal review concluded that center followed policy in handing the situation. The escape remains under investigation.

Stiff-Brown is described as 5'9″ tall and 165 lbs. with a medium complexion and tattoos on both arms: "loyalty" and "respect." He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, gray jogging pants and flip-flop shoes.

Kenney is described as 5'7″ tall and 175 lbs. with a light complexion, low-cut hair and several tattoos on his body. He was last seen wearing a red long-sleeve shirt, burgundy shorts and flip-flop shoes.

Anyone who knows of the teens' whereabouts is urged to contact police at 313-267-4600 or dial 911.
