Kraft Expands Recall Of American Cheese Slices After Complaints Of Choking On Plastic

DETROIT (WWJ) - The Kraft Heinz Company is expanding a recall of its individually-wrapped American cheese slices after receiving multiple reports of people choking on plastic.

The company said a thin strip of the individual packaging film may remain adhered to the cheese slice after the wrapper has been removed. If the film sticks to the slice and is not removed, it could potentially cause a choking hazard.

The company recalled 36,000 cases of 3-lb. and 4-lb. packages in July, but have since received two additional complaints of people choking on the plastic.

The recall is now being expanded to include additional sizes and varieties, including:

- 4-lb. Kraft Singles American

- 3-lb. Kraft Singles American (3 1-lb. packages)

- 4-lb. Kraft Singles White American

- 3-lb. Kraft Singles White American

- 1-lb. Kraft Singles White American

- 1-lb. Kraft Singles

- 3-lb. Deli Deluxe Kraft American Singles

- 3-lb. Kraft Singles American (72 individually-wrapped Singles in cardboard carton)

All of the recalled products include a "Best When Used By" date of 29 DEC 15 through 04 JAN 16, followed by the Manufacturing Code S54 or S55 -- except for the Deli Deluxe Kraft American Singles, which are dated 21 JAN 16 through 02 MAR 16.

Consumers who purchased the recalled products should not eat them. Instead, return the product to the store for an exchange or full refund. Consumers with questions can contact Kraft at 1-800-432-3101.
