Body Found In Manhole By Maintenance Crew In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A body was found in a manhole on Saturday on Detroit's west side.

Police told WWJ Newsradio 950 that Detroit Water and Sewage Department employees found the body while performing routine maintenance near Chalfonte and Steel streets.

Authorities are still working to identify the body.

The family of 19-year-old Osean Lockett Jr. -- who has been missing since July -- was on the scene and recognized some clothing on the body. Sergeant Cassandra Lewis said a Facebook post directed them to the scene.

"He was reported missing on July 8," Lewis said. "However, the body is about 20 feet from the street so we're trying to get the body out. Until then, we can't say that it is this person. So we're going to have to wait for the medical examiner to give us a positive identification."
