Man Dies After House Burns Down; Police Blame Candles

TAYLOR (WWJ) -- Police are blaming candles left burning from a romantic evening for a house fire that has taken the life of a Taylor man.

It is believed the 28-year-old victim and his 27-year-old girlfriend fell asleep with the candles lit at their home on Marvin St on Saturday morning. When they woke at 3 a.m., the house was on fire.

The victim was unable to escape the house and was pronounced dead at the scene. His girlfriend was treated for smoke inhalation.
